Sandwich, a personal history.

1. A long time ago, I was in an all-girl band called Sandwich.  We only played one song, also called Sandwich.

Sandwich, at a Halloween party, circra 1998. We’re sitting because we can’t play standing up.

2. Once, I invented a sandwich. The ingredients were: Fluff, Nutella, and sliced bananas on white bread. I called it the “HW Yummy” (patent pending).

3.  Last night, I had the honor of doing a reading/book-signing at the lovely Sandwich Public Library with my fellow road-trip author, Kirsten-Paige Madonia (FINGERPRINTS OF YOU).  The event was sponsored by Titcomb’s Bookshop.

We started off our night with an interview for a local cable access show, hosted by Kathy & her #1 YA reader, Emma, a high school senior.

We’ll be back, after this message from our sponsor.

Then we moved downstairs for the reading & book discussion.  Boy, were we surprised to see how much work Kathy put into our event.  The room was decorate with maps and travel guides, and she even had a bevy of tasty road-trip themed snacks!

Mmmmm, sugar.

Afterwards, we chatted with fellow YA author Scott Blagden, author of Dear Life, You Suck (Harcourt, March ’13) and signed some books.  Of course, we ended the night with some pictures in the Pea Pod photo-booth.

Kids, do not try this at home.

Vicky & Kathy hit the road!

HUGE thanks to Kathy Johnson of the Sandwich Library and Vicky Uminowicz for making our night so special.  It really means a lot to know there are such devoted booksellers & librarians out there willing to go the extra mile to help out a couple of debut authors.  And kudos to the amazing Emma for being so darn literate & cool.

If you’re in the Dedham, MA area tonight, it’s you last chance to catch our Road Trip Books Hit the Road Tour at the Blue Bunny Bookstore at 6:30pm.  Hope to see you there!

Super-fan awesomeness: manicure edition

I thought I showed my love for REUNITED when I got my toes painted yellow for BEA, but @amabe421 has clearly one-upped me.  I present to you the best REUNITED-themed manicure ever.  And possibly the only REUNITED-themed manicure ever. 😉

Coordinating one’s nails with one’s literature is a must this season.

Road Trip Prize Pack Winner Announced on REUNITED’s One-Week Birthday

Thank you all so much for spreading the REUNITED book trailer into every nook and cranny of the social network.    It’s been a thrilling and emotional week as I’ve watched REUNITED make its way into the world (without me!) and I am so grateful for the support of my friends, family, and fans who’ve been with me throughout this process, shared kind words about the book, purchased copies, and helped me pull off a totally kick-ass launch party.

Cruisin’ in the Pea Pod with 13-year-old Helen!

Now, it’s my chance to give some of that love back to YOU.  I’ve been so moved by all of the sweet emails, helpful re-Tweets, and photos people have sent of REUNITED at bookstores all over the country that I’ve decided to give away a bonus copy of the book!

REUNITED, in good company.

The bonus winner, who will receive a signed copy of REUNITED, is Sarah C.   Enjoy!

And now, without further ado, the winner of the REUNITED Road Trip Prize Pack is… Christy P.

Thanks again to all who entered.  May your summers be filled with wonderful adventures and great books!

Behold the glory of the Prize Pack!

RELEASE DAY for REUNITED!

It’s hard to believe release day is finally here.  I feel excited, relieved, and filled with gratitude to everyone who’s supported me during these past few years–my incredibly patient and loving family, my amazing friends, my editor Alexandra Cooper, and the rest of my team at Simon & Schuster, my agent Steve Malk, my manager Seth Jaret, my fellow authors in the Apocalypsies, and the fantastic community of book bloggers and readers I’ve come to know over the inter-webs.

In celebration of this momentous day, I’ve decided to extend my Spread This Book Trailer Everywhere Contest for another week.  So if you haven’t entered yet, this is your big chance.

Now, it’s time to let go of the book I’ve held so closely and allow it to make its own way in the world.  Best of luck, REUNITED!  And don’t forget to write. 😉

I have something you don’t have

26 days ’til release day and I got my author copies of REUNITED in the mail!  The real book.  The actual thing.

If I had more time, I’d take a series of photographs of my book and me on location— sharing a stolen kiss as we sit together on a porch swing in the moonlight, giggling to ourselves as we try on hats at the mall while “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” plays in the background, walking along the beach at sunset, holding hands (but mysteriously leaving only one set of footprints).

But my book cover and I are way too busy for such frivolity.

Fascinating…
